As if the show's collection wasn't already a display in pure black excellence, what made the NYFW show even more special was its Brooklyn location. Kerby chose to hold the show at the Weeksville Heritage Center, in the Weeksville section of Brooklyn. The historic neighborhood is named after James Weeks, an African-American man, who in 1838 a decade after slavery was abolished in New York, established this small free-black community. The location was once again transformed to its origins when a gospel choir appeared to provide the show's soundtrack.
