I had to unlearn all of these different posture things that I had picked up from years of tennis. It was really challenging, but choreography was one of my favorite parts because Celia is just so much fun to be around, her and Jason [Kittelberger] and Ida [Saki]. I feel like I spent most of my time with the dancers because I wanted to observe them and I didn't want to be disrespectful to the dance community. This artform is hundreds of years old, and they dedicate their lives to it. Half the time I felt like such an imposter, like, "Who am I to step into these pointe shoes?'' I didn't earn them. Why did they pick me to do this project? ryan ellis jersey I feel like Sarah [Adina Smith, writer-director] wanted to make Kate more like me, but I was like, "No." We're very different. I don't think being competitive in an athletic space is an individual quirk. A lot of people are like that. If you grew up doing individually competitive sports like dance, figure skating, and tennis, anything where you're not part of a team, then you probably practice a lot of self-discipline. I don't think it's unique to me. Kate is an underdog. She has to work that much harder than the people who started off ahead, and that feels so much more universal than particular to me. ryan ellis jersey As a field director, I train people to have effective canvassing conversations which bring out their own voice and their own stake in this election — and help them find the best ways to be effective in our community. I write sample scripts to model our ideal way of engaging our neighbors in longer, more meaningful conversations at the door. In training, our volunteers practice and personalize these conversations, learn more about why this kind of “deep canvassing” is effective, and are also taught about specific procedures (like how to collect ballot access petition signatures). Outside of these group trainings, I also have one-on-one meetings with volunteers throughout the week to help develop and support their leadership roles. ryan ellis jersey I came to see the Senate as skewed to help conservative senators. The first wave of Black Lives Matter protests started going on, and the Ferguson police officer [who killed Michael Brown] was acquitted. I happened to walk into a protest and a woman was carrying a sign saying âThe system isnât broken, itâs fixed.â I was thinking about what Iâd been reading, and it seemed to refer to this higher political system as well â the reason the Occupy Movement couldnât get anywhere, or Bernie Sanders couldnât get much steam or was suppressed by the Democratic Party itself. The system was working as it was supposed to. If that was the case and if we wanted to do something about, say, climate change, maybe the Northeast could do something, or the West Coast could do something. Maybe the union is a problem. Maybe itâsthe ryan ellis jersey
