I had actually taken piano lessons before that and hated it, which is funny ’cause that’s my main gig right now. Whenever my dad would drive me to violin lessons we’d listen to either classic musical or classic rock. It was a lot of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Stones—all of my dad’s favorite bands—or like Tchaikovsky. And when I started listening to music on my own, I got really into what I call, ’The Golden Age of Country,’ really anything before 1970. I’m also really big jazz fan. But my all-time favorite singer, definitely the biggest influence on me, is Sam Cooke. He has such an effortless vocal ability, it’s like he could sing while he was sleeping. The way he sang, that always stuck with me. When I got into school it let me explore different instruments and got me back into keys because we had to take classes in it. Really whatever I could get my hands on, I just like creating. I was in a band with friends from school, we were called Noble Hunter, and I was writing some songs for myself, and it was evident that they just wasn’t right for the band. It just happened pretty organically."WHAT MAKES YOU WORTH LISTENING TO: adidas lightster I think that definitely connects back to me hearing Hendrix for the first time because I had that experience of hearing that music for the first time and it really touching something deep inside me, and then when I started to talk, to other people who were into music, about it I kind of quickly understood that what it touched if me was different than what it touched in them. And what was getting touched in me was that something about the way that that music unfolded and told its story, made me feel very at peace with myself. When I was in the sort-of world that that music created, I felt ok about who I was and who I was made sense. And I think that if I was to analyze that, I think that to some degree that Jimi Hendrix's music has a very high degree of abstraction because of its use of really complex timbral compositional devices, and you know a number of other things. So that in that plain of abstraction that that music created I was able to experience fluidity around gender that was more consistent with what my experience was. I definitely think that that's a big part of the music that I’ve created is to try to use sound as a way of creating a landscape. And so making music I think, for me was a way to stay in that landscape. So when I started to take music more seriously what became meaningful for me was to create that for other people… a sonic landscape in which whatever was going on for somebody could be given space and room and a place to unpack itself, and be itself.TV adidas lightster In the flick, Dakota's character—who's only a teen—isn't happy with her boring (and much older!) husband. So she causes the scandal of all old-fashioned scandals when she cheats on him with a painter.
